Description

Located in the heart of the Rutherford AVA, the historic prestige vineyard from which Addendum sources its fruit for the Skellenger Lane Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 1895 by Mrs. Thomas Rutherford herself. This 300-acre parcel was replanted in 1988 using new Cabernet Sauvignon clones with tighter spacing and advanced trellising systems, enhancing both quality and grape tonnage.

Aside from its tremendous Napa history, the Rutherford site is an obvious choice for Addendum due to the impeccable farming by its established vineyard team. The 1.5 acre Addendum block, planted in the mid-1990s, has very little slope and is thus home to dense clay content, which ensures the grapes’ characteristically big, rounded tannins, depth of character and structure that allows the wines to age for decades as a result. Named for the road along which the vineyard is located, Skellenger Lane Cabernet Sauvignon is best characterized by its intriguing Rutherford dust terroir profile.

The history of this vineyard is especially poignant for Addendum, as both proprietor Eli Parker and current winemaker Blair Fox have been awarded the prestigious Andre Tchelistcheff Winemaker of the Year Award, named for the renowned winemaker of the BV Rutherford Cabernets made from this vineyard in the 1960s and 1970s.

Wine Critic Reviews
"Cassis, toasted spice, dried earth, and licorice notes all merge from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Skellenger Lane (100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new oak) and it's a medium-bodied, balanced, elegant wine. With fine tannins, good balanced, and the fresh, focused, straight-up classic style of the vintage, it's going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades as well." ~ Jeb Dunnuck "...a big, bombastic wine, but it also comes across as rough around the edges and disjointed, especially next to the two other Cabernets in this range. Even so, there is more than enough energy to make me think the 2016 may come together with more time in bottle. Time will ultimately tell." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous "Leathery thick and dusty tannins surround a robust core of black fruit and earthy cedar in this vineyard-designated wine, an herbal Old World offering of quiet complexity and lasting ripeness." ~ Wine Enthusiast
